Introduction to the Laboratory

Obesity and Physical Activity
Research Laboratory

College of Physical Education, Kyung Hee University

The research focus of this laboratory is on understanding the effects of physical activity, fitness, and obesity on cardiometabolic risk factors in both children and adults, with a special emphasis on ethnic disparities.

Our research interests focus on three principal areas in obesity research:

1) assessing obesity comorbidities and outcomes using clinical (e.g., waist circumference and body mass index) and laboratory-based methodologies (e.g., magnetic resonance imaging, proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy and computerized tomography), 2) examining the influence of cardiorespiratory fitness and muscular strength on obesity and morbidity, and 3) investigating the effects of exercise modality and intensity on reducing obesity and associated comorbid conditions.
